Economic Benefits
The construction and operation of the resort will generate:
1.
Up to 645 temporary construction jobs per year over a 3 – 5 year period
across a range of skills, sectors and levels
2.
350 jobs on site when operational with 80 spin off jobs in the local area
and 160 across Cornwall
3.
Annual operational expenditure (wages and suppliers) of over £4 million
within Restormel and £6 million across the county plus £0.8 million of
additional Council Tax receipts
4.
Skills training - on-site jobs provided at a range of skill levels, with
opportunities for training and career development
5.
Attracting high spending visitors - creating new, high quality facilities
with potential to attract longer-stay and higher-spending visitors to the
St. Austell area and Cornwall as a whole
6.
Year round facilities - provision of all-season facilities, which will help
extend the tourist season in the area and will support year-round
employment and expenditure.
The development will safeguard and enhance the future of an important asset for the St Austell area, providing an opportunity for the town to have a ‘waterfront’ for the benefit of both visitors and residents.
Training
The resort will create many different types of employment. We are in consultation with Cornwall College, with whom we want to work closely in the future and are proposing to introduce a ‘training charter'. There are many ideas including;
Training young people “new skills”
Re-training older people “re-skilling”
Creating a Young Apprentice Scheme
Engaging with schools
Timing of courses to link with the timescale for building and operating the resort.
“Cornwall College is committed to working with major project developers to ensure a skills legacy for Cornwall; we are pleased to have been invited to engage in a long term relationship with Commercial Estates Group and specifically their build on the Carlyon Bay site; the College is actively pursuing similar initiatives throughout the County and beyond,”
