Public Consultation

We fully understand the importance of talking to the community and extensive consultation has been undertaken with local residents, interest groups and public bodies. The feedback we’ve received has been very positive.

Community involvement has included three exhibitions in Oct 2009, June 2010 and November 2010. Two Liaison Groups have been established and are attended on a monthly basis by local councillors, county councillors, residents groups, the chamber of commerce and other public bodies.

Presentations have been made to Cornwall Council portfolio holders, Cornwall Council councillors, ward members and parish councillors and to Cornwall College. A Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) provides detailed information about our activity.

An Information Centre is located at Crinnis which is open to the public from 10am to 5pm seven days a week and is manned by staff who can answer any questions you may have.

CEG has listened to the comments expressed by local people – whether positive or negative. The feedback from the three exhibitions has been carefully assessed. Overall a high level of support for the emerging proposals was received.

Respondents from the third exhibition – that focused on design – considered the development would be beneficial for St Austell (7 people out of every 10 (70%) agreed/strongly agreed with only 1.5 in 10 people saying it would not).

88% of respondents strongly agreed with the aim to provide year round jobs.

In addition, over 70% of respondents agreed that the development should be mixed including permanent private residential.

There was also a high level of interest from young people at Cornwall College in the job opportunities at Carlyon Bay, particularly on the construction front during the next few years.

The feedback received has been an important influence on the emerging design of the development and several changes have been made to the project as a result. For example, contributions towards affordable housing, the provision of permanent residential accommodation, employment opportunities and a training/apprenticeship scheme.

It is CEG’s intention to continue to engage with local interest groups, residents and other interested parties during the Council’s consideration of the application proposal and the subsequent detailed design stages, construction and operation of the development.
