The Secretary of State announced on 19th June 2007 that she was refusing the application for upgraded sea defences but accepted that extant planning permission existed and that the approved scheme could be built out.

Planning Inspector Mr Ian McPherson will submit his recommendations to the Secretary of State in March 2007. It’s expected that a decision will be reached by July 2007.
Ampersand says if it does not receive the go-ahead from the Government, it will build the scheme for the old sea wall which was granted planning permission in 1990.
